A Year of Music

Last night, Mr. V and I went to see Common perform at the Highline Ballroom, one of our favorite venues to see shows. Luckily enough, Nas also joined him for a surprise set, which was fantastic. They sang the single "Ghetto Dreams" off Common's new album, which was released today and is so good. (For those of you that aren't hip-hop fans, maybe you'll remember Common from his recent poetry night performance at The White House for President Obama and the surrounding ridiculous controversy.)

Mr. V and I have been fortunate enough to see so many amazing shows this year (a perk of living in New York!), including Mos Def, Alice Smith, Robin Thicke, Dave Brubeck, artists of Stax Records, and Jay-Z and Kanye's West's phenomenal "Watch the Throne" tour.

Street photographer Tommy Ton recently revamped his website and published these images from "Watch the Throne" that so perfectly capture the essence of that concert...

These pictures make me want to see the show again! What a great year for music.

  1. Common was an amazing gentleman on Bill Maher after the recent kerfuffle. It shows the extent of his detractors ignorance.
